Definition
Allergic contact dermatitis is an uncommon papular, macular dermatitis of sparsely haired regions
Etiology
Allergic contact dermatitis result from an individual predisposition to develop sensitivity to contactansts
Pathophysiology
Allergic contact dermatitis is a cell mediated, tipe IV hypersensity raction to percutaneus absorpsion of environmental haptens.
Clinical presentation
Erythematous macules and papules may preseent at the muzzle, ventlal interdigital, perineal, pinnal or inguinal areas depending on the nature of offending agent.
Differential diagnosis
Irritant contac dermatitis, atopy, Food hypersensitivity, malassezia dermatitis, pelodera dermatitis
Diagnosis
History, clinical sign, excluding other diseases, provocative testing, patch testing and histophatology of lessions
Management
Prevent animal from contacting the offending agent.pentoxyfylline (10-20 mg/kg p/o q 8-12h) has been
Useful in preventing the allergic reaction when givn prior to exposure. Corticosteroids may give symptomatic relief.systemic antibiotic may be necessary with secondary infection
